Common Thread website
Common Thread provides residential care for young people who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect. Their model prioritises creating a loving family environment, individualised therapy plans and plenty of time for fun, creativity and recreation.
We created a brand that captured a sense of child-like creativity and expression. Bright colours were chosen and paired with a simple sans serif to let the other visuals shine. I created graphic elements by hand then digitised them. These can be combined in different combinations across the website, social media and print.
The logo design wasn’t included in the rebrand, but it was adjusted to make it more adaptable to a variety of usages.
A key goal of the website was to make navigation more intuitive and to slim down the content, tailoring it to their target users – local authority social workers and prospective employees.
NOTE: The website has not launched yet, included here are screenshots of the homepage and pages from the brand guidelines.

We Make Music Companion
In July 2023, I was asked to expand on my work developing the website for the Music Education Partnership Group to
incorporate a new digital tool for people interested in learning and making music in Scotland.
The WMM Companion celebrates the richness of the music education sector and was developed with musician and researcher Graeme Smillie. Find out more about its development in our article on TES.
My role was to create a structure which would allow users to search and filter the database of over 400 entries, a map, and
Spotlight On… case studies of exemplary organisations from across Scotland.
The Companion is currently live and in its beta version. It will be developed further as we gain a greater understanding of how users interact with the site.

Mop & Bucket mural
Mop & Bucket is a local shop which is a treasure trove for almost anything you could possibly need.
Owner Sarah wanted to encourage more foot traffic into the shop and advertise the range of lesser-known items they sell, including gardening tools, hardware and DIY materials.
The shop is an LGBTQ+ friendly space and we wanted to create a shopfront that was eye-catching and welcoming to all, especially women and non-binary people.
The design concept features three figures striking a pose with tools. I drew inspiration from voguing and ballroom culture and the Muses from Hercules. Bright colours make the window pop and the finishing touch was some friendly lettering to guide people to the door.
(It should be noted that voguing with pointy tools is not advised. Learning more about the ballroom scene absolutely is though, it’s incredible.)

Passion Project
In 2023, Studio Moffat supported rural drag diva Devine Tension to create a new performance exploring love and belonging as an LGBTQ+ person in rural Scotland.
For the crowdfunding campaign, I created a brand that channeled fun, passion and drama. I mixed luscious typography with hand-drawn illustration in a drag homage to the terrifying thriller Midsommar.
Unfortunately we fell just short of our target for the crowdfunder, but we still managed to support Devine to write the show, which was then staged in her hometown of Dumfries.

You Are Not Alone mural
You Are Not Alone is a global public art project that aims to spark hope, connection and conversations about mental health.
This mural is situated in our building at the Studio Theatre in Moffat. Painted in the project’s signature colours of yellow, grey and white, my concept brings together blocky letters and graphic motifs to highlight themes of hope and open conversation.

Spring Fling website
Spring Fling Open Studios is an annual event in Dumfries & Galloway run by Upland CIC.
In 2022, I was contracted to deliver the digital offering for Spring Fling’s event. This included developing their Virtual Studios for the hybrid event, to meet the needs of both in-person and online visitors. I created a system to allow artists to log in and submit their Virtual Studio information themselves. The studios integrate with a filterable interactive map to improve the user experience.
I also redesigned the rest of the website with cleaner layouts and easier navigation.
Devising from a stimulus sketchnotes
In 2022, we were supported by Creative Lives to bring theatremaker and performer Andre Anderson to Studio Moffat to lead a session on devising theatre from a stimulus.
Taking a backseat in the facilitation gave me a chance to capture the key learning from the sessions and turn it into illustrated sketchnotes.
Blank Generation podcast minisite
Blank Generation was a youth-led project which aimed to empower young people to discuss issues around climate and social justice.
In early 2022, we were funded by SCCAN, the 2050 Climate Group and our local community council to provide training in podcast production. with Daniel Allison of House of Legends. You can stream the pilot episode on the SCCAN website.
The podcast website and branding takes inspiration from the acid colours and analogue aesthetic of the punk movement.
